Beginnings
This year has felt a little like living inside a snow globe after someone shook it. At the beginning of the year, I had a mental breakdown that led to two inpatient stays. When I look back now, I can see the events of the year floating around me like snowflakes. I know they happened, but trauma has made the timeline messy.
For a long time, the therapist part of me took the lead. I had my own practice as a trauma therapist, and my heart was especially drawn toward people like me who seemed to fall through the cracks—the ones who felt unseen, unheard, and misunderstood. I wanted to create a space where people could show up as they were and felt genuinely cared for. Then I experienced a traumatic event that caused me to step away from being a therapist.
Since the incident, I've felt pulled more toward my artistic part. The therapist part of me continues to work non clinically throughout Guided Kare (GK). I'm not sure what will become of GK but I do have big visions and hope. It's already helping me explore who I am as an artist—and I pray that somewhere along the way, GK helps you in whatever way you need.
The first collection of art is called Beginnings. It's messy. It's a little of this and a little of that. I'm experimenting, learning, and figuring out what feels like me. In a way, the collection reflects this season of my life. I believe good art evokes something in us. Maybe a feeling, a memory, a question, a connection—or simply a moment of curiosity. The pieces in Beginnings are available to purchase (First Friday Artwalk) if one of them feels like something you'd like to take with you. Purchasing something is just one way to enjoy GK. Look around. Get curious. Create something. Share something. Take what speaks to you and leave what doesn't.
God Bless
